Advocacy

WSBA represents the interests of its members before the State Legislature, State Board of Education, and other state and national agencies. During the legislative session WSBA provides daily updates on legislative action via email to all administrators and school board members on what legislative action occurred on that day and what is expected to happen in future days. The Association employs lobbyists to be at the Capitol every day the legislature is in session to work with the legislators to let them know WSBA’s position on educational issues.

Member Advocacy

What do we advocate for?

With input from its members, WSBA sets an advocacy agenda with focused priorities for upcoming legislative sessions. Priorities include equitable access to quality educational opportunities, local control, parent engagement, and school safety. The 2024 Advocacy Agenda can be viewed here.

Who do we represent?

Just as school board members are advocates for schools in their communities, WSBA represents school boards across the state. Our staff interact with education organizations and political leaders at the state and national levels in order to protect the interests of local school boards.

Who votes on resolutions?

The WSBA Delegate Assembly meets each November to establish legislative priorities, resolutions, and core beliefs of the association. The resolutions adopted during the Delegate Assembly provide WSBA a framework for its advocacy efforts during the legislative session. Prior resolutions can be viewed here.
